Zero Sequence Earthing was tasked with designing the earthing system for the 275kV connection between the Wandoan substation and the Juandah Substation near Woleebee, QLD. The goal was to enable robust interconnections between the Powerlink transmission network and the significant solar and battery generation facilities at the Juandah substation. The 1.2km 275kV route presented challenges, including the need to model it in CDEGS Hifreq and assess it for earth faults and steady state conditions at each substation and the joint bay. This assessment was vital for ensuring personnel safety and protecting third-party assets.
Our team at Zero Sequence meticulously modeled the entire 275kV route using advanced software, CDEGS Hifreq. We conducted a thorough assessment that considered earth faults and steady state conditions at both substations and the joint bay. Our focus was on ensuring personnel safety and minimising the induced or transferred voltages to third parties. Our approach adhered to strict compliance standards. Furthermore, we assessed fault scenarios at Wandoan, Juandah and the joint bay, paying special attention to personnel safety and evaluating induced or transferred voltages to third parties.
The Wandoan to Juandah 275kV Connection Earthing Design project resulted in a compliant and robust earthing system. By addressing a wide range of fault scenarios, we ensured personnel safety and minimised potential impacts on third-party assets. Additionally, our load condition modelling verified compliance with third-party corrosion standards and ensured appropriate sheath voltages for the sizing of voltage limiting devices.
